Why are mostly Medela, Ameda Playtex and Avent breast pumps on the Breast Pump Comparison Pages?

True, there are other brands of breast pumps on the market.  We chose these brands for how frequently they are searched for on the internet and especially for how well they are reviewed by actual users. There is no disputing the longevity of Medela and Ameda in the breast pumps market at 50 and 60 years respectively. Avent and Playtex as the next runners-up, have brought some fresh design to the table and garnered excellent reviews. If you are only just beginning your research on breast pumps, this is a good place to start. If you want to read reviews by users of the breast pumps, Amazon.com, Epinions.com, Target.com and the Babies 'R Us website are good places to go. (See where to read breast pump consumer reviews.)

When comparing different breast pump sets for best value, you may want to compare the extras included: number of baby bottles, cooler bag, bra pads, etc. We did not take the space to list all these extras because a breast pump choice should be based primarily on the features of the pump itself. The extras can usually be purchased separately.

In the case of breast pumps considered to be rental pumps or "hospital grade" pumps, Medela and Ameda appear to be the only manufacturers in this market. Recently Whittlestone has begun a program for renting their breast expresser pumps also. Unfortunately, reviews by users of the hospital grade breast pumps do not seem to be available. Please e-mail the webmaster at babylovesyourmilk.com if you know where some may be found.

Froogle is Google's shopping search engine found at http://froogle.google.com. Exempting eBay prices because they are usually lower, prices were based on Froogle quotes in November 2006 and may change or vary according to specific store. Shipping costs were not included. Parts to assemble and wash are based on best estimates by viewing parts lists and instruction manuals. Some parts when first assembled become a single piece that only occasionally need separating for thorough cleaning. We recommend you go to the manufacturers' websites to view instruction manuals for yourself before purchasing any of these breast pumps. For Ameda breast pump instructions we recommend http://www.mybirthcare.com/py_instructions.asp or view these pdf instructions for Lansinoh breast pumps at www.lansinoh.com, which are nearly identical to the Ameda Purely Yours breast pump.
